Kareena Kapoor says there is nothing "vulgar" about her backless shot being used for the publicity posters of forthcoming release Kurbaan, an intense thriller about terrorism. In fact, she says, it subtly reveals a lot about the story.

"This shot of me in a backless posture and Saif with a wound on his chest tell so much about the film’s theme," said Kareena.

"There is love, passion and violence - all combined in here and what better way than to show it through a single still? You too would agree that there is nothing sleazy or vulgar about it. Knowing the sensibilities of Karan Johar (producer) and Rensil D’Silva (director), that’s the least one could have expected," she added.

Kareena said that after Geet in Jab We Met, her character of Avantika in Kurbaan will make people sit up and take notice.

"The girl’s role has a lot of edge in Kurbaan, something which starts becoming more and more visible as the film unfolds. In any case the film is not one of those cliched love stories. Every character has quite a few layers to it and Avantika, the character I play, is no exception. She is quite pivotal to Kurbaan," she said.

Kareena plays a professor in Kurbaan who gets married to her colleague, played by Saif Ali Khan. They move to New York after marriage, but as a series of events unfold she finds herself into a vortex of danger and intrigue.

She further realises that she is a pawn in a huge game and no one could be trusted.

"What made this role special is the fact that I play this young beautiful professor who is quite normal. She reacts to terrorism for the first time and life is never the same again for her," she said.

"Actually if you ask me, then technically Kurbaan is the story of this girl. She is the light of the screen. I am sure people will cry with Avantika…so strong is her characterisation," the actress said.

After Jab We Met, Kareena was seen in Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Kambakkth Ishq, Tashan and Golmaal Returns. And except Golmaal Returns, none of the films did well at the box office.

Kareena is delighted about the prospects of audiences seeing her in a different light after the film and says it is not a frothy romance drama.

"Kurbaan has a deep-rooted love story to it, but it is not a frothy romantic film that we are time and again exposed to. The love story is much deeper here. There is a definite meaning, purpose and reason to it. Also, the film is quite powerful in its own way since it’s the voice of moderate Islam," she said.

The film, which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Dia Mirza, is releasing Nov 20.(IANS)

Riya Sen will share a lot of interesting trivia about herself on her newly-launched website! Lakshmi Roy rubbished the reports in the media that she was romantically involved with her physical trainer. However, the actress says that the report has no truth in it.

"Prasad is my personal trainer and my relationship with him is thoroughly professional. What’s more, Prasad is on the verge of getting engaged. This false report will have an adverse effect on both his career and family," said the actress.

"The report claimed that he stayed with me in the same hotel in an adjacent room. But that is because I'm now working on several projects and I need to stay fit. In fact, for one of my films, I have to reduce nine kg. For this, I need to work out for at least a couple of hours everyday in the morning before I leave for shooting. As I'm busy and travelling, my trainer travels along with me. If Prasad stays at a different hotel, he could be delayed and I wouldn't be able to begin my work out at 5 am. Hansika and Gopichand are going to be paired up together for the first time. Hansika’s guru Puri Jagannadh who introduced her to Telugu Cinema has asked her to do his next film Golimaar. And Hansika reportedly said yes to the movie. Gopichand is playing encounter specialist in this film which would start its shooting from next month. 16th international children film festival india 2009 starting on 14th November in Hyderabad till 20th November
Information and Public Relations Minister J Geetha Reddy announced here today. The week-long festival, to be jointly organised by the Andhra Pradesh Government and Children’s Film Society of India (CSFI), would be inaugurated by Chief Minister K Rosaiah at Lalita Kala Thoranam. The festival would screen as many as 70 films from various countries. As part of the film festival, the school education department has already selected five children from each district in the State and nominate them as delegates. The organisers have also urged the Tourism Department to provide tourism Information kits and also organise local site seeing tours for the delegates. Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni would be the chief guest and noted filmmaker, writer, poet, lyricist Gulzar would be present on the occasion among other prominent personalities. The movies would be screened at eight venues including Imax theatre in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Geeta Reddy said adding `Lalitkala thoranam’ will be the main venue where the inaugural and concluding ceremonies will be held. CFSI CEO Sushovan Banerjee and I&PR & Managing Director C Partha Sarathi were also present on the occasion among others.

Story
The much talked about Doomsday or end of the world has been predicted and while all developed nations of the world think it is a long time away, the Indian astrophysicist Satnam (Jimi) discovers that the end is quite near.

The news reaches even the President of US, Wilson (Danny Glover) and all key leaders in the world are alerted about it. Meanwhile, there is writer Jack Curtis (John) who is out on vacation with his children and before it actually begins, the fury of the planet begins to unfold.

Who survives the massacre? What happens after that? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
John Cusack
He did his role as required and though he doesn’t have that tough guy image, he tried his best to fit in the role of a concerned father.

Chiwetel Ejiofor
He plays a key role and though he was not that effective during the emotional scenes, he managed to make his presence felt in other sequences.

Amanda Peet
Looks hot and sexy and though there is no room for glamour here and she plays the mother of two, her oomph factor is neat and she has delivered a good performance.

Others
Thandie Newton was alright, Danny Glover was decent, Woody Harrelson was a wreck, Oliver Platt did justice to his bit, Thomas Mc Carthy was evil enough, Beatrice Rosen was sexy to the core. The others did their bit as required.

Analysis:
It is the most hyped movie from the past few months and entire world has been more worried, anxious and longing to watch what’s shown on silver screen. The myriad blogs, web portals and TV shows those have been active from many months have turned a default publicity agents for this movie that has released today.

The film didn’t convey anything concrete about Mayan Calendar or about prophesies of clairvoyant sages those had delivered about this 2012 dooms day. The maker has directly moved to the catastrophe that’s going to happen in the form of earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions et al and their unbelievable impact on life on earth.

The writer has taken a leaf from Old Testament and created a Noah ship kind of thing called ‘Big Ship’ to save human race to make the new age begin after the doom. The date of new age is read 27th of Dec 0001. This entire episode runs on screen for about last 20 minutes.

It’s like any other Hollywood movie like ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ but with intense scenes and thrilling moments.

Bottom Line: Watch it for a wonderful experience

Currently, the Bollywood circuit is getting heated up due to the spat between the legendary actor Om Puri and his journalist wife Nandita Puri as the latter had written about her husband’s sexual escapades in the biography. She wrote that her husband had sexual trysts with servant maid and many more in his life so far.

However, there is another version which seems to be making strong rounds.

Apparently, sources say that all this is a publicity stunt which the couple have resorted to and reveal that it is Om who gave the advice and is now creating trouble. They also add that the couple is making gossip sound like fact and that way building publicity mileage for the book.

However, those close to the actor have quashed this as a baseless rumor and say that given his fame and status, they don’t have to resort to such things. While the debate is on regarding the authenticity of the controversy, money sure seems to be flowing in for the couple due to the sexuality of the book.

The second trailer of Sekhar Kammula's Leader was rejected by censor board because it sported voices of some real politicians in assembly. The music of Leader is likely to be released on 22 of November. Micky J Meyer scored music. Leader sports RaNa Daggubati in the title role. AMV Productions is producing this movie. Leader is all set to release in the second half of December.

Legendary director K Vishwanath is all set to direct a film after a long gap of three years. The film is titled as Sumadhuram. Allari Naresh will be playing the lead role in this film. The female lead is not yet finalised. Mani Sharma is composing music for the film.

The regular shooting of tough task maker SS Rajamouli's upcoming film Maryada Ramanna will commence from November 25th. The film stars comedian Sunil and Saloni in the lead. Music of the film is by MM Keeravani. Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni are jointly producing this movie in Arka Media Works banner.

Maryada Ramanna has the backdrop of Rayalaseema. The hospitality of Rayalaseema is the main theme of this movie.

V Aditya Babu and Bhogavalli Prasad are combinely producing the film on Aditya Arts banner.The audio of the film which got released recently has got tremendous response. 'Ringa Ringa ....' has begun to rule the roost and it has raced to the top in the chartbusters.

Controversies always followed Magadheera from the time it got released and seems to be there is no end for that. A Tamil writer has filed a complaint with South Indian Film association claiming that the story of Magadheera belongs to him and was narrated to Allu Aravind long ago.

The tamil version of Magadheera is scheduled to strike Kollywood in January 2010.

This is the hottest grapevine from reliable sources that the movie ‘Ledaer’ may hit the Tamil screen as well if it works well in Telugu. Sekhar Kammula would direct the Tamil version with Rajni Kanth, tentatively on AVM banner. It is the wish of AVM to make it possible on Tamil screen as well. So if Telugu audiences make ‘Leader’ a hit, our director, Kammula, would hit the Tamil screen as well. Let us wish Sekhar Kammula all the best for this. ‘Leader’ is hitting screens in December with Daggubati Rana as main lead.

The authorities say that strict action is being taken on piracy racketeers and constant vigilance is being maintained at all places. However, this would come like a slap on the face for them. They must actually go a visit the roadside busy area of Koti which is a famous business centre.

It seems that piracy CDs are being sold at Rs 15 and that too of latest flicks like ‘Arya 2’. Surprisingly, there is also a combo pack which has audio of big movies like ‘Magadheera, Ek Niranjan, Billa, Arya 2’ and all this is got for just fifteen rupees.

If this is how things are going on then one can imagine the kind of impact it has on the film makers who spend crores of rupees on the projects. It is about time the authorities put an iron foot on this else the day is not far when Tollywood would suffer very dearly due to its mistakes, say few concerned members.

Varun Sandesh has been on top ever since his Happy Days. His Kotha Bangaru Lokam also had set a new record and thus he became a youth icon. He came up with Kurradu and obviously the expectations will be above the plane. Let us see how this worked.

Story:
Varun (Varun Sandesh) is a young boy who loves owning a sports bike. But his below middle class family background turns a barricade to fulfill his dream. His poor father (Tanikella Bharani) worries about his day-dreaming and irresponsible son. But after a dramatic incident his father gives him Rs 70000 to purchase bike out of his all life time savings. Varun buys a bike and enjoys. He finds a girl Hema (Neha Sharma) and both fall in love. But that bike results in turbulence in Varun’s life. What is that? That has to be seen on big screen.

Performances:
Varun Sandesh looked lean and lanky and he didn’t suit for the energy levels required for the role. He needs to upgrade his dialogue delivery pattern especially while portraying the roles of this kind.

Neha Sharma looked good with naughty smile and big eyes. But she hasn’t upgraded in the matter of performance. Many of her expressions sounded artificial and sometimes lagging in dialogue.

Tanikella Bharani is ok as middle class father while Pragathi is perfect in mother role. Ravi Shankar, the popular dubbing artiste played the lead villain role in fitting manner.

Others are ok.

Technically, the movie has no big thing to discuss about. The story sounds not so great as already ‘Ride’ has come on screen with similar theme.

Analysis:
It’s a different version of ‘Ride’. It is also inspired from the Tamil movie ‘Polladavan’. But Pollavadan has already inspired Ride. While Ride has two heroes where one is arrogant and other is the one with poor background, here the hero in Kurradu possessess both in him. The bike forms common element both in Ride and Kurradu.

On a whole, the movie has no tempo that keeps audience fix on to seats with interest. First half is ok while second half seems to have run with no punch and required emotion.

The movie may not appeal in the way it’s expected.

Bottom Line: It can be watched only to kill time if you feel that’s Hobson’s choice.

Allari Ravi Babu's upcoming film Amaravathi is scheduled to release in the first week of December. The talented director is riding high after delivering back-to-back hits Anasuya and Nachchavule. Now, he is back with a thriller. The film stars Tarakaratna, Bhumika, Sneha and Gadde Sindhura in the lead. Ravi Babu is playing the role of a police officer in the film. The promos of the film are sure to arouse some curiosity. The film is produced by Ananda Prasad and music is by Sekhar Chandra.

There is a Tamil film titled Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam in which choreographer-director-actor Lawrence is playing a cowboy -an Indian version, though.

Also starring Sandhya, Lakshmi Rai and Padmapriya in lead roles, this one said to be a Western adventure comedy film.

Imagine Larencce in that cowboy costume, riding horses and with that carefree rough-tough attitude...

Unlike Charan, Lawrence seems to be new to horse-riding. So, the director wanted him to learn the sport first. Sources from the crew said that Larencce, Sai Kumar, Ilavarasu, Viyapuri and Sams learnt horse riding everyday in the morning in beach. Lakshmi Rai learnt the act during the time she gets between the shots and has done a great job!

Looks like this one will have a story that happens in the 18th century and will have the flavour of Mexico. No sarees or dhotis in this one.

Should say that these flicks of this genre are different from the regular stuff!

Aamir Khan is being given a run for his money for the title of Mr. Perfectionist by south sensation Surya as he takes his Hindi lessons way too seriously. Honing his Hindi vocabulary, Surya is learning the perfect pitch to deliver his dialogues for the Ram Gopal Varma political thriller Rakht Charitra.

Apparently so serious is Surya to make a perfect Bollywood debut, that he has gone ahead and hired a tutor to improve his diction in Hindi. RGV must be so proud of him.

Apart from Surya, actor Vivek Oberoi is also to be seen in this flick in the role of gangster Paritala Ravi. Rakht Charitra is expected to go on floors from February 2010.

Mahesh has finally accepted the fact that he took long gaps between movie to movie so far. He assured the fans and producers that he will take care in future to do atleast two flicks in a year. Accordingly he is preparing plans to implement it. Currently he is busy in doing Thrivikram Srinivas directed film. After this he is said to be doing a flick with director Surender Reddy, for which the title "Mr. Perfect" is being considered. Its budget is said to be a whopping 40 crores. This would be the first film in Telugu to have made with such a huge budget.

Yesterday cine actor Rajeev Kanakala made a visit to the Dargaah in Cuddapah to offer prayers. Speaking at Dargah, he said " my mother's native village is quite near to Proddutur in this district. I am very happy to have come to Dargah today. Next time I will bring along my friend young tiger NTR also here." So many famous people from film industry have visited this Dargah in the past. Famous cine music director A.R. Rahaman comes here frequently.

The petite beauty Trisha's Bollywood debut flick Khatta Meeta, is said to be a remake of a popular Malayalam film of 1990's Vellanakalude Nadu. Mohanlal and Shobana played the lead roles in the original version.While, Akshay Kumar and Trisha are doing the lead roles in current version. National Award winning director Priyadarshan is directing this film. It is said that Priyadarshan has made some changes to the original script to suit the present day audience.

The shooting of Balakrishna's upcoming film Simha is progressing at a brisk pace in Hyderabad. The next schedule is planned in Vizag. The shooting would be wrapped up with the Vizag schedule in December. Sneha Ullal and Namitha has been paired opposite Balakrishna in this commercial entertainer. The film is directed by Boyapati Srinu of Badra and Tulasi fame. Paruchuri Kireeti is producing the film under United Movies banner. Music of the film is by Chakri. Simha is slated to release for Sankranthi 2010.

Jr NTR, VV Vinayak’s combination upcoming movie is getting ready to hit screens on December 18th.Presently this team canning a song in a specially erected pub set. Nayanatara and Sheela are playing opposite Jr NTR. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music and is being produced by Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan.

In a surprising development, Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday made a scathing attack on film hero Nagarjuna for campaigning for Lok Satta in the GHMC elections.

TDP MLAs P Kesav and P Revanth Reddy described Nagarjuna as a big land grabber. They pointed out that Nagarjuna had encroached upon 16 acres of Gurukul Trust lands at Madhapur worth crores of rupees and got them regularised using his good offices with former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. In return, the hero had done a few promotional advertisement films for the Congress government before elections, obviously to benefit the ruling party.

“Now, he is doing campaign for Lok Satta. How can Jayaprakash Narayan, who cries from the roof top about money and caste power, utilise the services of Nagarjuna in the campaign?” they asked. The TDP leaders challenged the Lok Satta to verify the accounts of the TDP and prove illegal collection of party funds. “He has no stature to compete with our party president N Chandrababu Naidu. We are enough to answer all his queries,” they said.

Prabhu Deva, who is riding high after the success of his Bollywood debut film, Wanted, denied reports in the media that he has roped Nayantara as the lead actress in his next film.

"I am working on the finer details of the script. The heroine has not yet been finalised. A few of them are under consideration. I'm not considering Nayantara for the film. People even wrote that I am taking Nayanthara to Bollywood, which is totally untrue," said Prabhu Deva.

Prabhu Deva categorically denied any plans of making a sequel to the Blockbuster film, Wanted.

"Though the film is a big hit, it is not that easy to start a sequel to any subject. Where is the script for the new film? Moreover Salman is extremely busy with three projects, all of which are under production. But I am not totally ruling out the possibility of making another film in Bollywood. It's just that it may take a long time before that happens," he said.

One knows that if a film is promoted by Dil Raju, it must be a meaningful entertainer. This has been proved time and again in the past. Sarai Veerraju, a film based on a novel, has attracted the lucky producer and he is learnt to have bagged the distribution rights for Naizam and Vizag areas.

Rare are the films inspired by novels and short stories. Sarai Veerraju, a film directed by debutante D S Kannan, is one such film based on the novel Aaru Sarayi Kathalu, by Ravi Shasthri. Starring Ajay and Ramya, the film was exclusively shot at Narsipattinam with an intent to give a real look to the film (the film has also been shot in Dubai). Also, the aboriginals of the town will be seen playing themselves.

As the film is based on a novel, we can expect a well-rounded script and well-written characers. For example, protagonist Ajay's character has been written with utmost care, as per the makers: a combination of sarcasm, valour, honesty and tenacity.

Produced by Parachuri Ramakoteswara Rao, the film has Mumaith Khan in the cast. D S Kannan has lent the story, screenplay and dialogue too. A bi-lingual (Telugu and Tamil), the film is touted as a realistic flick. Others starring in the film are Madhulika, Dhanraj, Joginaidu, Satthenna. Music is by Sri Sai.

The shooting of the multi-starrer film Vedham is in brisk progress. It is known news that director Krish of Gamyam fame has roped in an unusual cast for this film. This casting coup include Allu Arjun, Anushka, Manoj and Manoj Bajpai. Note that they are not going to do guest appearances but lead roles. This film will definitely create a new trend in Tollywood.

The film will have five characters playing five important roles and they supposedly denote the 'panchabhootalu'. According to sources, Allu Arjun is symbolic of earth, Anushka represents fire, Manoj personifies air and Manoj Bajpai is representative of water. An old man role plays a crucial role in the film.

According to the sources, Allu Arjun plays the role of a man who lives in slums. Anushka portrays the role of a prostitute in the film.

This film is Produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Devineni Prasad under Arka Media banner. Music is by M M Keeravani and Cinematographer by Jnanashekar. Vedham is slated to release in January.

Surya Kiran's forthcoming film is a love story that deals with the sensibilities and emotions of two young lovers.

According to the director, whose previous films like 'Dhana-51' did not get audience approval, 'Chapter-6' deals with the myriad emotions between a lover boy and a lover girl. "We have drawn a parallel to these emotions with colours. It's a beautiful relationship that takes place between two hearts."

For a change, Surya is dealing with a subject that has its roots in the logic that not every marriage needs to consummate in a marriage.

The film is coming before the audience in December. The director's actress-wife Kalyani is playing a significant role in the movie. It is the home production of the couple and stars Bala and Sonia as the leads. Kalyani has not been accepting too many roles after her marriage with Kiran, and this time she is making a comeback in a performance-oriented role.
