Biggies get ready for January 2010 war

Come January, a raft of big and small movies will slug fest for box office share at the box office. With at least four December releases getting postponed owing to the unfriendly situation for films in the state, these are joining in the Jan war too. Thus, you have Nagarjuna's 'Kedi', NTR's 'Adhurs', Venkatesh's 'Namo Venkatesha', Ravi Teja's 'Shambo Shiva Shambo' and Shekar Kammula-directed Leader coming as the month's biggest releases. These films have high stakes and are brandished as prestigious projects.

Of the five, 'Adhurs' and 'Leader' were not scheduled for a Pongal release, while 'Kedi' and 'Namo Venkatesha' have always been the contenders for the festive season. Now, the fight has got more exciting. It is difficult to fathom the enormity of the situation in next month, with no parallel in the past. Though there has been no official declaration about Leader's release date as yet, it may be presumed that the producers will not allow it to languish more than a month in the studio.

Apart from these much-awaited ones, there are films like Deva Katta's 'Prasthanam', Three Angels-produced 'Om Shanthi', Manchu Manoj-starrer Bindaas, Nikhil-starrer Kalavar King, Geetha Krishna-directed Koffi Bar, dubbed film Yuganiki Okkadu in the fray, though not necessarily in mid-Jan.

'Amayakudu'. The film is produced by Bharathi Ganesh and directed by Bala Murugan. The role I am doing here is a world apart from the ones which I played in the two Vinayakudu films." After Saranya, with whom he acted in Villagelo.., it is Ananya this time.
The story is kept under the wraps as of now, but it is about love, fun and relationships in a family. The film has been shot in Vizag, Araku and Paleru. Highest Losses Lowest Hits ! Of Tollywood In 2009 (A detailed Report)

Tollywood's Report card of 2009

Before Knowing about 2009 Tollywood report just we want to congratualate New talented artists who debutanted in this year.Tollywood’s report card only six hits and a slew of disasters. Presenting the good, the bad and the disappointing moments of the film industry in 2009...

The year 2009 would go down in Tollywood annals as a mixed one. The year did begin on a high with a hit film in the very first month, but as it inches to a close, December releases have gone awry, shootings are stalled and film screenings stopped, no thanks to the ongoing Telangana tussle.

Of the 125 theatrical releases, only six were declared hits by the trade guides, pushing producers, distributors and exhibitors in the middle of a major financial mess (losses to the tune of Rs 300 crore were incurred on Telugu films and 120 theatres shut shop).

Though Telugu filmmakers did their bit to woo the audience with varied genres — suspense thrillers (Kavya’s Diary, Amaravathi and Katha), horror movies (Diary and Aa Intlo) romances (Boni and Kurradu), family dramas (Mithrudu and Bangaru Babu) and even small concept movies (Villagelo Vinayakudu, Indhumathi), the audience didn’t seem to like any of them.

Hit machines
Amidst a heap of flops, the brightest spot was Magadheera starring Ram Charan Tej and Kajal Agarwal. The film became the highest Tollywood grosser ever made (Rs 57 crore and counting). There are now reports that the film is being remade in Hindi even as leading production houses fight over the film’s original rights. Anushka and Sonu Sood’s Arundhati made Rs 30 crore and was the first hit of the year. Ravi Teja scored a hit with Kick (it earned over Rs 22 crore).

Small was bountiful
About 40 small-budget films hit the screens. And surprise, surprise! Some of them went on to be money-minting projects too. While Prayanam (Rs 5 crore) and Ride (Rs 8 crore) were hits, Bendu Apparao also made money (Rs 9 crore). “The audience thumbed down clichéd masala flicks. Novelty is the key,” says filmmaker M S Raju whose Maska didn’t work at the BO.

Dubbed delights
This seems to be Hollywood’s big year in AP. While the Telugu version of Hollywood blockbusters 2012 (earned Rs 30 crore) and Avatar were huge successes, even other dubbed flicks like Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon earned big bucks too. Even small towns warmed up to dubbed Hollywood films.

Kollywood misses mark
It was a bad, bad year for Kollywood superstars Vikram, Vishal and Suriya in T-Town. Their dubbed Mallanna (Vikram), Pista (Vishal) and Ghatikudu (Suriya) collectively lost Rs 30 crore.

Youth brigade
The charismatic Allu Arjun tried something new when he essayed a grey role in Arya 2 (the film raked in Rs 15 crore in the first weekend alone). Six-packer Prabhas’ Ek Niranjan earned Rs 12 crore as opening week collections. Star son Nag Chaitanya’s launchpad Josh also posted good openings and the youngster is now doing another “different” film with Gautham Menon. Allari Naresh bounced back with a laugh-riot (Bendu Apparao) while Manchu Manoj tasted moderate success with Prayanam. Siddharth had a hit in Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam and a dud in Oye, while Varun Sandesh had a disappointing Evariana Eppudaina and Kurradu. Nani had a hit in Ride and a flop in Snehithuda, while Tanish scraped through with Ride.

Missing in action
T-Town’s biggest stars Mahesh Babu, NTR Junior, Nagarjuna and Pawan Kalyan had no releases this year. Only Venkatesh had a release in Eenadu. Unfortunately the film didn’t work.

Reign women
Among the reigning divas of Tollywood, only Anushka seems to be flying high after Arundhati. The other screen scorchers Ileana (Rechipo), Genelia (Sasireka Parinayam), Nayanthara (Anjaneyulu) and Hansika (Jayeebhava) all had flops to their credit. Upcoming stars Aksha and Swetha Basu tasted success with Ride and Harika too had a Prayanam to her credit. Kangna Ranaut’s Rs 1 crore dream debut with Ek Niranjan made her the most expensive debutante in Tollyland, but the film was a commercial letdown.

The Big Picture
Summing up the scenario, thespian Ramanaidu who bounced back with Bendu Apparao says, “For decades the success ratio has always wavered between 10 per cent to 20 per cent, but this year things have been bad. I hope things improve next year,” he adds.

With spiralling cost of production as stars and directors continue to take home hefty pay cheques, paucity of ‘novel scripts’, here’s hoping for some more miracles in Tollywood in 2010. Perhaps the best is yet to come.

Girls heroes love to patronise

Seems that some heroines are pretty lucky to be patronised by top heroes. Though the trend is more typical of the Hindi film industry, Tollywood is no stranger to it. In the past, Sameera Reddy became Junior NTR's fav, who was roped in for 'Ashok' and 'Narasimhudu', on the advice of the star. Unluckily for Sameera, most of the films she acted in did not do too well here and she later opted for Bollywood.

Ditto with Mamta Mohandas now, whose name was suggested by Akkineni Nagarjuna for his film 'Kedi'. Mamta earlier acted with the glamorous star in King. Of course, it is also true that the professional actress well deserved the film. Nagarjuna himself praised the actress for displaying professionalism on the sets.

The gossip mills churn the rumour that Priyamani is being promoted by Jagapathi Babu. What could have made them to come to the conclusion? Well, the actress has acted in three movies with the middle-aged actress. 'Pellaina Kothalo', 'Pravarakhyudu' and now, 'Sadhyam'.

In a way, some actresses are fortunate enough to get godfathers in the form of frontline actors.

.500 Telangana theatres agree to ban Arya 2, Saleem

500 Telangana theatres agree to ban Arya 2, Saleem

December 22, 2009

Nearly 200 movie theatres in the Telangana region have been screening Arya 2 starring Allu Arjun and Saleem starring Manchu Vishnu despite the “ban” imposed by the Telangana activists.

It was to express their outrage at the pro-united state stance taken by the Praja Rajyam chief, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, and actor Mohan Babu that films starring their kin were banned by the activists. Angry Telangana agitators have now asked these theatres also to stop screening the films or face the consequences.

Following this, Telangana film distributors and exhibitors on Monday formally decided not to screen Arya 2 and Saleem and about 500 theatres in the region also pledged not to screen the movie of any actor who supports the united state cause.

The decision came a day after the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, issued a statement against Telugu film actors who are supporting the ongoing united AP movement.

The Telangana Film Chamber of commerce decided not to screen films of these actors till the situation gets normal. “Telangana people are upset with Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu,” said Mr Vijandar Reddy, president of Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce. “So the agitators have been attacking theatres. We will screen other movies in the place of these two films.”

Further, the chamber warned film-makers that they will not screen any movie which has an anti-Telangana tone or has derogatory dialogues agai-nst people from this region. It seems that until things simmer down, film lovers of the region will have to be content with English, Hindi and dubbed movies.

Producers have already decided to stop all the movie releases this month.

Salman throws a stag party

Salman Khan is well-known in Bollywood circles for his wild parties. If the party happens to be his birthday bash and that too at his farmhouse at Panvel, it promises to be double the fun.

However, yesterday night, Salman had a low-key celebration for his 45th birthday. He had a stag party.

A source says, “Bhai is known to have fun during his parties at Panvel. His parties are much awaited and talked about by his guests. Salman’s large-heartedness ensures that all of them have a blast. However, this year, Salman is not in one of his merry moods. After his break-up with Katrina Kaif, he is not in the mood to go all out and celebrate. So, on his special day, he did not send invitations to any female. He did not feel the need to have a girlfriend by his side or even bask in the glory of any other female company. Incidentally, Katrina is in London to celebrate Christmas and New Year with her family. Salman has invited only his close male friends. Also, unlike every year, the celebration this time is not on a lavish scale. Yesterday’s party was held only for his close friends music composers Sajid Wajid, hairstylist Aalim Hakim, his bodyguard Shera, his close associate Nadeem, his filmmaker friends Vijay Galani and Sajid Nadiadwala among others. Salman has already celebrated his birthday with his family on Saturday night.”

Let’s hope that by next year, the tide turns and the large-hearted Khan gets back to hosting lavish parties.

Ileana loves her cute daughter!

When Ileana is asked about her marriage, she gave a quick reply saying that she was totally busy in making her daughter getting ready to go to school. "I must give the bath, prepare breakfast and dress up her. My daughter is so cute that I can’t live without her" says sexy Ileana. Shocked with this? It was Ileana’s elder sister Farah’s Daughter. Ileana treats as her own daughter and she was her best Buddy.

The other cast and crew are yet to be announced.

‘Exchange Offer’ Between Kollywood And Tollywood Heroes

With the current situation of the film industry, kollywood and tollywood hero’s are exchanging their actions. By this they can score success at the box office and make audiences feel good.

One such incident was power star Pawan Kalyan who will soon be arriving with his ‘Puli’ will have the Kollywood star Simbu doing a special role. In return sources said that pavan is going to act in a role for Simbu in the lead. Many say that if this happens, it will open up a new avenue for creativity and audience in both Tollywood and Kollywood will have a good time.

What’s up, Priyanka, Shahid?

Either they don’t know their score themselves. Or they just think it is cool to add to the enigma. But Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor love to keep people guessing about their relationship. These two stars, who were reportedly dating during their Kaminey phase keep letting out little secrets about their ‘friendship’ that lends grist to the rumour mills.

The latest one hears is that a month ago when both PC and Shahid were in Bangkok shooting for two different films, they allegedly stayed in the same hotel. And if they bumped into each other in the foyer, they were very friendly. When they came back to Mumbai, they even shared a meal at a suburban cafe. So if you’re wondering what the score is currently; well it is back to naught because Shahid is supposedly partying with his male buddies in Goa and PC is packing her bags to go to New York for Anjaana Anjaani. Will she fly to NYC via Goa? Quite possible!(TNN)

Save the Tollywood Film Industry Appeal to the Govt.

T-Agitators have changed their route towards Film Industry. They are continuosly hitting very seviourly Shooting spots. They are aming to big stars kins are their new movies shooting spots and destroying valauble sets. This also has led to huge losses in the industry which is already suffering due to disruption in releasing the new movies. Every common man needs cinema and at the same time the cine industry needs the support of every common man. In such a situation if there is man handling as well as damages to equipment and the sets how thousands of people depending on these shootings can live? Their livelihood depends on productions and such disturbances are affecting the same badly.

'Maryada Ramanna' Regular Shooting From 28 th December

'Maryada Ramanna', directed by SS Rajamouli, and Comedian Sunil As a hero went on the floors recently and continued shooting as per the schedule for two days. However, the ongoing tension in the Telangana region made the producers to wrap up the schedule and restart it later. It is learnt that Arka Media Works, the producers, are planning to restart it from the 28th of this month, if everything goes well as planned.
The film stars Saloni as Sunil's romantic pair. Rajamouli has been planning to make it into an important film for comedian Sunil, who has Andala Ramudu as the hero in his kitty. That the ace director is keen to make Sunil a star is amazing. It went on the floors without making much fuss. Unfortunately, following many incidents of attacks on film units in the city, it had to be shelved.
Even from the 28th, when the producers are planning to restart, the situation will not be better is what any observer can say.It is learnt that the fear has stuck them too. With Monday being the Muharram day, the Joint Action Committee called for an indefinite bandh from the 29th.

T-agitators scare Tollywood

The Telugu film industry is very much worried over the growing attacks on studios and shooting spots by Telangana activists demanding separate statehood.

Film industry sources say the producers have lost tremendously not only because of a slump in theatre collections in Telangana region, but also due to frequent attacks on the film shootings. They apprehend that the attacks are pre-planned with an intention to scare the Andhra actors and producers. This has forced the Telangana producers and film makers and technicians forming into a separate federation so as to avoid attacks on them.

On Sunday, pro-Telangana activists attacked the office of Geeta Arts, a production firm owned by well-known film producer Allu Arvind, who is also the general secretary of K. Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party. Raising slogans of 'Jai Telangana', a group of protesters attacked the office at the posh Jubilee Hills and hoisted a banner of 'Telangana Youth Joint Action Committee' on it. Police reached the scene and arrested the protesters, who are said to be from Mahabubnagar district.

The latest attack has heightened security concerns in the film industry, dominated by coastal Andhra region. A furious Allu Arvind said it was the responsibility of all political parties to ensure that the Telangana agitation does not spark a war with people of other regions settled in Hyderabad.

But the whole set up seems to have gone for complete change.

Now Krishnavamsi has given up directing this fantasy film and in its place a regular commercial script is chosen, sources told us. Telugu Cine Industry appeals to government

For the past few days there are unexpected attacks on the people involved in shootings in Tollywood resulting in wounds to people and damages to the properties. This also has led to huge losses in the industry which is already suffering due to disruption in releasing the new movies. Under these circumstances to ensure proper ambience, the president of AP Film Chamber of Commerce VV Balakrishna Rao, KC Sekhar Babu, Telugu Producers Film Industry Association T Prasanna Kumar, President of Hyderabad State Film Chamber of Commerce M Vijayender Reddy, MAA President M Murali Mohan and AP Film Employees Federation’s K Rajeswara Reddy organized a press meet at Hyderabad.

They appealed, “For the past three days we are seeing disturbances at shootings. The man handling and creating a dreadful atmosphere at film shooting spots are shocking to the film industry. At the same time we request all in the cine industry to not to turn emotional but follow peace. We request the state government to provide full security to all the shooting spots.”

Nayantara romance with NBK and NTR

It may be quite a coincidence but very interesting thing. Tollywood hot babe Nayanatara is romancing with Balakrishna and Jr.NTR at a time. We will be performing a very chilled out, mellow set and take my word for it, the acoustics will shine through.”

Finally, ask her if daddy dearest will come with family in tow to support her and she concludes with a laugh, “I have no clue. You should ask him that. I want him to come see Shruti the musician and artiste, and not Shruti, his daughter. I want the music to speak for itself.”

Cute girl Genelia feel very lucky

Cute girl Genelia feel very lucky to establish herself in the industry in such a short period. She said, “Whatever roles I did so far, they elevate me to higher levels. Acting means not only romancing with hero and exposing in revealing costumes. Heroine should be able convince the audiances with her performance and not with skin shows. But, unless an actress gets right opportunities, she never can establish herself in the industry. It happens merely by luck. In that way, I am very lucky. My film ‘Bommarillu’ in Telugu and ‘Janetu Ya Janena’ in Hindi gave me a solid base in Tollywood and Bollywood. Now, my latest Telugu film ‘Katha’ is also well received by people.”

“Indeed, it is very difficult role in my film career. In fact, I strained a lot for doing ‘Chitra’s role in the film. But, when the people start appreciating me, I feel very happy for doing such a wonderful role. I am receiving number of phone calls from all over the state congratulating me for my best performance,”

500 T-halls agree to ban Arya 2, Saleem

Producers have already decided to stop all the movie releases this month.(DC)
