Bina Roy, the actress of Anarkali's sad demise on the 6th of December came as a shocking news to many in the Bollywood industry. The critically-acclaimed actress of the black and white era of Hindi cinema famously debuted with Kalighat in the year 1951.
She passionately aspired to become an actress and to make her parents agree to allow her to foray into films, she undertook a fast-unto-death! Her parents finally acquiesced to her demand, and rest is history.
Her latter day films include Anarkali, Taj Mahal and Ghunghat, for which she won a Filmfare Best Actress Award. She married actor Prem Nath (a close relative of Raj Kapoor) with whom she acted for the 1953 film Aurath.
The actress died in a Delhi hospital and is survived by her two sons Prem Kishen and Kailash Nath.
